Dear Parent/Guardian,
Bakersfield High School is taking an extra step to protect your child by providing cardiovascular testing for students aged 12-19 on school grounds on 02/17
Sudden Cardiac Arrest is caused by an abnormality in the heart's electrical system or structure that abruptly stops the heartbeat. It is the leading cause of death on school campuses. According to the American Heart Association, every 3 days a young athlete dies from Sudden Cardiac Arrest in the US. In 80% of the cases, there are no warning signs or symptoms leading up to a cardiac arrest.
CAPPO Health will perform EKGs and echocardiograms to detect heart conditions that can put your child at risk and vascular ultrasounds to identify vascular conditions common to athletes (such as blood clots). All tests are non-invasive, and the privacy of your child is maintained.
To learn more and register for the testing, please visit:
http://go.cappohealth.com/fmi/webd/Bakersfield%20High%20School
Once have chosen your appointment time, please visit: www.cappohealth.com and click on "HS Registration" at the top of the page to complete your registration paperwork.
There are no upfront costs for this testing. CAPPO Health will bill your health insurance, accepting what your carrier deems usual and customary. As required by law, CAPPO will bill for any deductible or co-insurance owed, if applicable. There are a number of circumstances that would waive any balance due for this testing (including saving for college). Please be aware that if you have an HSA, FSA, or HRA account, funds may automatically be deducted if a balance is due. We encourage you to call us at (833) 244-5700 to verify your benefits or to answer any questions you have about the billing process.
Together with Bakersfield High School, we look forward to contributing to the health and safety of your athlete! Contact Doyne Byrd at 417-284-7333 if you have any questions.

FFA Barnwarming is tonight from 5-9 in the FEMA building.

Parents,
As a parent I understand how children can get out the door dressed inappropriately (wearing a pair of shorts, short sleeves, or a hoodie instead of a coat) in the middle of January. For this reason, we ask that you please make every effort to make sure they are dressed appropriately for these cold winter days. As stated in the handbook, "If children are dressed inappropriately for weather conditions, they may be required to stay in during recess or other outdoor activities". Thanks for all you do!
