Due to the rapidly increasing number of students required to quarantine, large number of students exhibiting illness and positive cases of COVID-19, the Bakersfield R-IV School District will be going virtual for the next two weeks. All in-person classes, extra-curricular activities, sports, practices are postponed. Vo-tech students will not attend SCCC in West Plains for two weeks. School will resume on Tuesday, September 29. Parents of students in grades 4-12 may pick up chrome books in the high school office Monday after 1 PM until 7 PM and anytime on Tuesday between 8 AM and 7 PM. Virtual classes will begin at 8 AM on this Wednesday, September 16. Students will simply need to check their school email for directions. If you do not have internet at home, you will be able to pick up a flash drive of all lessons. Please contact your building principal for more information on the flash drive option. Mr. Byrd is available at the high school office at 417-284-7333 ext. 403. Mr. Hollis is available at the elementary office at 417-284-7333 ext. 408. Both will be dispersing materials/chrome books so if they don’t answer, please leave a message and your call will be returned. Because we are still waiting on over 130 chrome books that are backordered, Kindergarten through 3rd grade will be receiving packets with books they need to complete their work. Mr. Hollis will be overseeing the delivery of needed materials to each elementary child’s home beginning Tuesday. If you are coming to pick up materials or chrome books for older children, please let Mr. Hollis know by sending an email to brianh@bakersfield.k12.mo.us or calling 417-284-7333 ext. 408 so this can be coordinated with the pickup of the chrome books. Teachers will be checking in with students. Please feel free to email or communicate with your child’s teacher with any questions about assignments. As soon as the chrome books are delivered, we will let everyone know when they can be picked up. This is the last thing we wanted to happen this year. We had high hopes that the mitigation measures we implemented would make this unnecessary. We reached a tipping point over the weekend with so many additional cases of illness and quarantines. At this time, it makes sense to go virtual for two weeks to deep clean the facility and hope that the virus in any asymptomatic students or staff would run the two week course. It is our goal to quickly get back to a healthy school environment for everyone!

Bakersfield R-IV School District has received two confirmations of positive COVID-19 tests in students. Both students are in the elementary building. Close contacts have been contacted with quarantine instructions per health department guidance. All students in grades 2nd and 5th who have not been contacted are not considered close contacts and are not required to quarantine, but should still monitor for symptoms including fever over 100.4, cough, difficulty breathing, loss of taste/smell, runny nose/congestion, headaches, sore throat, body or stomach aches, nausea/vomiting/diarrhea. If students exhibit these symptoms, please contact your health care provider or health department.

All Students will have FREE Breakfast and FREE Lunch beginning this week and continuing through December 31, 2020 or until the grant funds run out. However, at this time we will have to suspend the supper program because they are two parts of the same program source and we can't do both. Once this grant expires, we will go back to the normal National School Lunch Program and continue with the supper program. IF you have not filled out a free and reduced application, please go ahead and do that so it is ready for when the FREE grant for ALL expires after Christmas break.

Dear Parents/Guardians of 3rd and 4th graders, We would like to inform you that your child has had a possible low risk exposure to the COVID-19 virus. We ask for your help in monitoring your child/children for potential signs or symptoms of illness. If they are not feeling well, please keep them at home and follow up with your primary care provider if needed. Below is a list of symptoms that would indicate your child/children should follow up with their doctor: High Risk Symptom • Fever- >100.4* • Cough • Difficulty breathing • Loss of taste/smell Low Risk Symptoms • Runny nose/Congestion • Headache • Sore throat • Nausea/Vomiting/Diarrhea • Body aches There have been several reports of different types of viruses making their way through our students, as there are every year. It is our goal to keep all of our students healthy and learning here at school, so please be aware that they can still have a virus and not run a fever. The stomach virus often does not have fever with it and usually starts making its way through the student body about this time every year, so please keep that in mind also. Feel free to contact us if you have any questions. We would also appreciate it if you would let us know if your child is having symptoms, or if you plan to have them seen by a medical provider. Thank you for helping us keep everyone in school and healthy!
