
Tomorrow, Tuesday, August 24, is the FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL!!!! We are excited to see all of the students return! Masks are not required, but welcome. Safety protocols will be in place upon entry including hand sanitizer and a variety of layered measures. We look forward to a year full of learning!

South Central Career Center (SCCC) students will not be going to SCCC until Wednesday morning. All students will need to report to Bakerfield school by 7:50 am Tuesday, August 24.

Open House on Thursday, August 19th from 5:30-7:30 for new students only, kindergarten, and 6th grade. Returning elementary students may bring their classroom supplies from 3:00-7:30 but parents will not be allowed in the building due to the resurgence of COVID-19. Returning MS/HS students will receive their schedules on the first day of school from their GAP teacher.

Cross Country practice will take place tomorrow, August 13th, at either 7am and 7pm for anyone interested (the athlete can choose which time they want to run at). Sorry for the late notice on this due to the unforeseen circumstances. This is considered an official practice. We will also have practice next week at either 7am or 7pm. We will meet at the park. I hope to see you there!

New student registration is going on this week Tuesday-Thursday from 9 to 3 each day. Any student new to the district is invited to stop by the elementary or high school building office to register.

Art I and Studio Art students (3rd and 7th hour) - please bring a sketchbook to class. The two pictured below are found at Wal-Mart (cheapest is $2.74), and you can also find sketchbooks at Hobby Lobby. Please bring nothing smaller than 8.5 x 11 inches.

Cross Country practice is canceled this next week (unless otherwise indicated) due to unforeseen circumstances. All runners need to try and run 10 to 15 miles total for the week with a 5 minute core workout after each run. I will post an update if anything changes.

The Bakersfield R-IV Board of Education has approved the 2021-2022 MS/HS handbook. All students/parents will receive a copy of the handbook at open house/registration.
Below are the notable changes that parents and students need to be aware of:
1. Eligibility policy: Zero "F's" allowed to be eligible for extracurricular activities. Eligibility will be determined by the 2nd progress report of each semester, and semester grades.
2. Attendance Policy: Students can accrue no more than 5 unexcused absences in any or all class periods per semester.
Examples of Excused absences include funeral of immediate family, school activities, college or career day, sick note from parent/guardian--accepted 5 times per semester, drivers test-1 time per school year, and covid testing/quarantine period.
Examples of Unexcused absences include routine Doctor/Dentist appointments as we encourage those to be on Mondays, any sick note from parents over 5 per semester, and any unverified absence
3. Book bags/Totes: will not be allowed in classrooms without a documented medical condition.
4. Dress code: leggings, tights, yoga pants can not be worn unless they are under school appropriate shorts, skorts, or dress that meets the dress code requirements. Shorts, skorts, and dresses must be mid-thigh.
5. Family trips must be approved four (4) calendar weeks before the scheduled trip. Family trips will not be approved during semester finals, or during MAP/EOC testing. Family trips in excess of one school week annually will not be approved. Family trips will not be approved if students have in excess of 5 unexcused absences.
6. Vapes/E-cigarettes: students found in possession of, or using a vape/e-cigarette will be required to complete a vape education course before they will be allowed to return to classes.

Sports physicals this Wednesday, July 28th at the Jerry Taylor Gymnasium. From 9:00am to 12:00pm. All athletes must have a current physical on file before they can begin practice. Forms will be available that day and must be completed by the parent/guardian before the athlete can be seen.

All Cross Country practices before the start of school will meet at the park at either/or 7am or 7pm depending on runner preference.

The Ozark County Health Department in Gainesville is now scheduling appointments for a shot clinic on Thursday, July 22nd and Thursday, August 19th. If your Child is in need of any of the required shots for enrollment, please make an appointment to get this done. Shots are by appointment only and can be made by calling 417-679-3334. Also students in the 8th and 12th grades can call and schedule required shots on any day other than the days that the shot clinics are being offered.

Guild will be having its second summer meeting this Saturday, July 24th, from 12:00 to 5:00. The meeting will be at the school in Mr. Dillinger's classroom. Alumni members are welcome to attend. Everyone is encouraged to eat before the meeting as food will not be provided.
