High School Basketball Season Guidelines
In order to protect the season and give our athletes the best chance at completing a season, the following guidelines will be implemented:
1. Parents may transport TO away games, but a bus will be provided (all riders must wear a mask).
2. Each athlete will be provided a set amount of tickets. These tickets allow you to come into the gym. You must present the ticket in order to pay and come into the game. Tickets are determined depending on if it is a girls only, boys only or both game night. The number of tickets provided to each player is based on the number of players on each team and gym capacity.
Girls only games---Girls will receive 6 tickets per player, visiting teams receive 3 tickets per player
Boys only games---Boys will receive 6 tickets per player, visiting teams receive 3 tickets per player
Combined games---Boys and Girls will receive 4 tickets per player, visiting teams receive 2 tickets per player
3. 25 Student tickets for Bakersfield High School student spectators will be available on a first come, first served basis for home games only. These student tickets will be available in the high school office and available the day of the home game. The last set of bleachers near Coach Lansdown’s office will be reserved for middle and high school student spectators who have a ticket.
4. ALL Kids 5th Grade and YOUNGER must SIT WITH THEIR PARENTS. We encourage that you sit in family groups anyway, but 5th grade and under must sit with parents/guardians. (It has been our experience here that students in this age group may have COVID and not display symptoms, so it is very important that they sit and stay with the family group.)
5. Faculty and Staff who want to attend (and don’t have a ticket from an athlete) must sit in the weight room.
6. We do not control away games. As soon as we know what the other school's protocols are, we will post them here.

Dear Parents,
Unfortunately the virus has significantly impacted our school and community to the point that the safest plan is to transition to virtual learning for two weeks. We plan to do this for the next two weeks, October 20-23 and 27-30. We will return to seated learning on Tuesday, November 3.
It is our sincere hope and desire that the two weeks will be adequate time to pass all isolation and quarantine periods. Also, if any other students and staff have been exposed, 14 days is the time frame when symptoms should present. At that point, those persons with symptoms could seek treatment and everyone else would be able to come back.
Teachers will be available during school hours for questions. Many will be conducting zoom classes so if your child has a question during the time the teacher is conducting a different class in zoom, the teacher will get back with you as soon as possible.
IN ADDITION, all teachers (unless required to isolate because they are positive for COVID) will be on campus Tuesday and Thursday evenings between 5 to 7 pm to answer questions or provide tutoring during the two weeks we are doing virtual learning. If you bring your kids to campus, they must be healthy and wear a mask! You may also call your teacher at school during these times.
I sincerely apologize for this. All of us at school would much prefer seated instruction. Seated instruction is better for kids and easier for teachers, however, with the significant numbers we are experiencing at the moment, the safest place for kids to learn for right now is at home.

Students, FFA fundraiser order forms and money are due. If you have orders and money to turn in please do so this week so I can place the final order. If you are quarantined and cannot turn in your orders please contact Mr. Grigg at jgrigg@bakersfield.k12.mo.us for further instructions.

9-12 Students--Flash Drives will be available for this week on Friday after 12:00 for students that requested flash drives. If you did not stop by the office and ask for one yesterday and you need them call the office ASAP.
417-284-7333 ext. 403

High School Students--Classes Start at 8:00 this morning! Get on zoom and be ready to learn!!

All Middle School and High School basketball, and softball games are cancelled for the week of Oct. 12-16.

We will be moving to virtual learning for High School ONLY beginning tomorrow, Wednesday, October 14 for the rest of this week and next week. High students may return to seated instruction (unless quarantined by health department) on Tuesday, October 27. Buses will run normal routes for all Kindergarten through 8th grade students. This outbreak has affected MANY of our high school students and staff. We are thankful, to this point, our younger kids have not been as greatly impacted. However, if you are not comfortable sending your child to seated instruction, or if someone in your home has a compromised immune system or other health issue, you may take choose to participate in the online learning until you are comfortable sending them back. Just notify the office. Please stay healthy!!

Beginning Wednesday, October 14th, the High School Only will be going to virtual learning through next Friday, October 23. All K-8 students will continue on campus for seated instruction. Buses will run normal routes. If you have a student in K-8 and have concerns about sending your child to seated instruction during this outbreak in our area, or someone in your home has a health issue, you may elect virtual as well. Simply call the office to notify us of this choice.

We apologize for the inconvenience and late notice, but we will have to cancel preschool for 2 weeks. We simply do not have enough educators to cover all required classes. Preschool will resume on October 27. Stay healthy!

Students that are positive or quarantined: teachers will have all materials on google, and will be doing zoom meetings. If you do not have good internet and need flash drives please call the office in the morning.

Attention MS/HS Students
Make sure and charge your chromebooks tonight, and bring back chromebooks, chargers, and all books/materials Tuesday morning.

Due to the rapidly increasing number of students required to quarantine, large number of students exhibiting illness and positive cases of COVID-19, the Bakersfield R-IV School District will be going virtual for the next two weeks. All in-person classes, extra-curricular activities, sports, practices are postponed. Vo-tech students will not attend SCCC in West Plains for two weeks. School will resume on Tuesday, September 29.

Mr. Hollis will be overseeing the delivery of needed materials to each elementary child’s home beginning Tuesday. If you are coming to pick up materials or chrome books for older children, please let Mr. Hollis know by sending an email to brianh@bakersfield.k12.mo.us or calling 417-284-7333 ext. 408 so this can be coordinated with the pickup of the chrome books.
Teachers will be checking in with students. Please feel free to email or communicate with your child’s teacher with any questions about assignments. As soon as the chrome books are delivered, we will let everyone know when they can be picked up.
This is the last thing we wanted to happen this year. We had high hopes that the mitigation measures we implemented would make this unnecessary. We reached a tipping point over the weekend with so many additional cases of illness and quarantines. At this time, it makes sense to go virtual for two weeks to deep clean the facility and hope that the virus in any asymptomatic students or staff would run the two week course. It is our goal to quickly get back to a healthy school environment for everyone!

Busy week of softball for our Lady Lions at Pride Park. Monday September 14th 4:30 vs Gainesville. Thursday September 17th 4:30 vs Alton. Saturday September 19th tournament all day starting at 9.

Thank you to the local First Responders/Law Enforcement that attended our Patriots Day Ceremony. The Honor Society did a great job in remembering the attack on 9/11/01, and honoring our local heroes. To all First Responders, Firemen/women, and Law Enforcement Officers, thank you for making the Bakersfield Community a great place to live and work. God Bless you all!!

Bakersfield R-IV School District has received two confirmations of positive COVID-19 tests in students. Both students are in the elementary building. Close contacts have been contacted with quarantine instructions per health department guidance. All students in grades 2nd and 5th who have not been contacted are not considered close contacts and are not required to quarantine, but should still monitor for symptoms including fever over 100.4, cough, difficulty breathing, loss of taste/smell, runny nose/congestion, headaches, sore throat, body or stomach aches, nausea/vomiting/diarrhea. If students exhibit these symptoms, please contact your health care provider or health department.

All Students will have FREE Breakfast and FREE Lunch beginning this week and continuing through December 31, 2020 or until the grant funds run out. However, at this time we will have to suspend the supper program because they are two parts of the same program source and we can't do both. Once this grant expires, we will go back to the normal National School Lunch Program and continue with the supper program. IF you have not filled out a free and reduced application, please go ahead and do that so it is ready for when the FREE grant for ALL expires after Christmas break.

There have been several reports of different types of viruses making their way through our students, as there are every year. It is our goal to keep all of our students healthy and learning here at school, so please be aware that they can still have a virus and not run a fever. The stomach virus often does not have fever with it and usually starts making its way through the student body about this time every year, so please keep that in mind also. Feel free to contact us if you have any questions. We would also appreciate it if you would let us know if your child is having symptoms, or if you plan to have them seen by a medical provider. Thank you for helping us keep everyone in school and healthy!

Bakersfield School District COVID-19 Statement
The district will make every effort to provide our student-athletes with the opportunity to participate in extracurricular activities for the upcoming school year.
The benefits of a public based education program with activities are numerous and the pandemic has resulted in thousands of students missing out on many life-shaping experiences.
Students and their families, along with school personnel, must recognize inherent risks involved in activities and work to implement best practices to help mitigate these risks.
The district and MSHSAA are recommending student-athletes wear a mask or face covering during the normal school day and while being transported on a bus. NOTE: this is a recommendation only.
In the event a student-athlete does test positive, it must be reported to the Superintendent, Principal or Athletic Director in a timely manner. The school district will remain in contact with the local health department and MSHSAA to implement all the proper protocols.
If the positive test is reported as quickly as possible this will allow the student to quarantine and then return to play after the required MSHSAA COVID-19 Return to Play Form has been completed by a Physician.
A delay in reporting to the school district could result in possible entire team quarantine or a cancellation of games and/or the entire season.
Every sport and school district, along with activities, are different. Certain practices and strategies may be feasible for one sport or district, but not another.
The district will continue to work closely with the local health department, and our families, for a productive and healthy school year.
GO LIONS!!!

Hey! So prom is set! Could you please share this info with the juniors and seniors?
June 12th from 7:30-10pm at the pavilion. We are still going with the roaring 20's theme.
These are the questions I've been asked already with the answers.
1. Why so soon?
The reason for that date is because summer ball starts the next weekend.
2. Will it still be formal?
I say every come with what they've got. If you've got formal, wear it. If not, we all understand and don't care. We just want to see people and share the experience!
(From Grace) Hey guys I don't know if any of you had a dress rental with PJs but I just called them and they are allowing me to still rent the dress and have it in the Pavilion even though it's going to be outside if they have everyone's measurements and are totally open to the idea of giving you the dress without paying anymore.
3. How do I get a new prom date approved?
Mr Byrd said that anyone who needs to clear a date should just call him and give him the info.

A young man who fails to register with Selective Service may be ineligible for opportunities that may be important to his future. He must register to be eligible for federal student financial aid, state-funded student financial aid-including A+, most federal employment, some state employment, security clearance for contractors, job training under the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (formerly known as the Workforce Investment Act), and U.S. citizenship for immigrant men.
Go to https://www.sss.gov/ to register.

We would ask that customers gather their own plants and calculate their own price totals. Please bring exact change if paying cash. Please insert cash or check in a money container that we have available. See attachments for plant list and prices.

The first of March the sophomores had the opportunity to tour South Central Career Center. This is the vocation school in West Plains our students attend for two years to receive a certification upon completion. I ask the parents of the sophomores to discuss the idea of attending SCCC their junior and senior years. This is a commentment and a privledge, not a requirement. Students need to have a 2.5 GPA, on task to graduate, and good attendance. If your child is interested, please send me an email letting me know your child is interested in enrolling. If they meet these requirements, then I will provide you with directions to have your child complete an application from SCCC. Not all applicants will be accepted. SCCC has opened their enrollment process,so the sooner you email me the better. Thank you and I hope to hear from you soon.

The Foyer will be open Monday-Thursday from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

We just finished “The Outsiders” in our 7th grade Reading class. On the last day, I asked them to come to school dressed as characters from our novel. The students absolutely blew my mind! I was so incredibly proud of the way they embodied the characters and the 1960’s storyline. These “Greasers” were spot on! 🖤-Mrs Sisney

Great Job, Bakersfield Scholar Bowl! On Monday, Bakersfield hosted the White River Conference Quiz Bowl. Thanks to Mrs. Tefft and Mrs. Fowler and all the judges and workers for making it a success!

Track will meet in the gym lobby for practice today at 3:45.

A huge congratulations to the Bakersfield Scholar Bowl travel team - Lane West (captain), Ransom Killion, Cooper Bridges, Autumn Farel, and Jasmine Hall. We are so proud of the way they behaved and competed in our first ever multi-school tournament. We travelled to Fair Grove, Missouri and competed in a tournament that hosted 29 area schools of all sizes. They won two matches and barely lost a third with the last question.
But what makes us most proud is how they continually praised one another every time they correctly answered a question or even got close.
Below is their total points earned, which includes Power Up (PUp) points.. Those are earned by answering with only having heard a small part of the question.
Lane - 190 (2 PUp)
Ransom - 110 (2 PUp)
Cooper - 115 (1 PUp)
Autumn - 10
Both Autumn and Jasmine were vital in helping answer bonus questions, for which they are not awarded individual points.
WAY TO GO "SMART ONES"! (Quotation marks are their inside joke)

A reminder to all those who are participating in and helping with the WRV Conference Scholar Bowl Tournament on Monday, March 9th, 8:30-2. Both JV and varsity teams will be competing, so we need everyone there at 8:30. Parents are welcome!

Please note: There is NO Youth Basketball at Gainesville on Tuesday, March 10th. We will attempt to reschedule these games.

The Bakersfield FBLA is planning and organizing the event, Small Town Extreme Makeover. FBLA, along with several clubs, classes, churches, and community organizations are planning on painting a home in the city limits of Bakersfield. We are hoping to make this a yearly event and are asking for your support. In an effort to help revitalize and restore our town, the students at BHS want to pay it forward to a community that has been a big supporter of the school. We are asking for donations in many forms: financial support, physical labor, and materials needed for the painting project.
Bakersfield FBLA members met with the City Council on February 27th to make the first-year selection. This year's recipients are the West family, which are currently renovating their home located by the city well house. The home makeover day is scheduled for April 4th, 2020. Contributions can be made at Century Bank of the Ozarks in Bakersfield or see Stephanie Guffey. Be there when we Move that School Bus on April 4th!

Dear Parent/Guardian,
Bakersfield High School is taking an extra step to protect your child by providing cardiovascular testing for students aged 12-25 on school grounds on 02/17
Sudden Cardiac Arrest is caused by an abnormality in the heart's electrical system or structure that abruptly stops the heartbeat. It is the leading cause of death on school campuses. According to the American Heart Association, every 3 days a young athlete dies from Sudden Cardiac Arrest in the US. In 80% of the cases, there are no warning signs or symptoms leading up to a cardiac arrest.
CAPPO Health will perform EKGs and echocardiograms to detect heart conditions that can put your child at risk and vascular ultrasounds to identify vascular conditions common to athletes (such as blood clots). All tests are non-invasive, and the privacy of your child is maintained.
To learn more and register for the testing, please visit:
http://go.cappohealth.com/…/webd/Bakersfield%20High%20School
Once have chosen your appointment time, please visit: www.cappohealth.com and click on "HS Registration" at the top of the page to complete your registration paperwork.
There are no upfront costs for this testing. CAPPO Health will bill your health insurance, accepting what your carrier deems usual and customary. As required by law, CAPPO will bill for any deductible or co-insurance owed, if applicable. There are a number of circumstances that would waive any balance due for this testing (including saving for college). Please be aware that if you have an HSA, FSA, or HRA account, funds may automatically be deducted if a balance is due. We encourage you to call us at (833) 244-5700 to verify your benefits or to answer any questions you have about the billing process.
Together with Bakersfield High School, we look forward to contributing to the health and safety of your athlete! Please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions.

The Bus route dropping off students out MM, K and KK highways is delayed due to water over the road. We are rerouting which may cause some delays. 12/12/20 PM.

Parents,
As a parent I understand how children can get out the door dressed inappropriately (wearing a pair of shorts, short sleeves, or a hoodie instead of a coat) in the middle of January. For this reason, we ask that you please make every effort to make sure they are dressed appropriately for these cold winter days. As stated in the handbook, "If children are dressed inappropriately for weather conditions, they may be required to stay in during recess or other outdoor activities". Thanks for all you do!

Attention MS/HS Parent--The Following Letter is coming home with your child today.
At Bakersfield R-IV School, we are committed to providing a safe learning environment for our students. Recently we have found that the safety of our students is being compromised by the rise in popularity of vaping.
Vaping has been sold to the public as a safe alternative to smoking, and only recently have we seen a number of people hospitalized and even deaths attributed to it. The vape industry has gone even further by designing items specifically for kids that make them almost impossible to detect.
While we are aware that we have students who vape, we are doing everything we can to keep them from doing it here. We have a number of students in the MS/HS that have breathing issues such as asthma, who are being affected by second hand vape in the classrooms, restrooms, and locker rooms.
As a result, the Bakersfield R-IV School Board, in an effort to protect all our students, voted to change the Discipline Code for any student found vaping, or in possession of a vape, to the following:
1st Offense – 5 Days Out of School Suspension (OSS)
2nd Offense – 10 Days OSS and student will be removed from regular classes and assigned to the alternative learning room for the remainder of the school year.
3rd Offense – Expulsion from school for up to 180 days.
This Discipline Code change became effective September 19, 2019, at the regular monthly board meeting.
We will continue to educate our students on the dangers of vaping, but we need your help in order to keep all our students safe. If you have any questions, you may contact me at (417)-284-7333.
Thank you,
Doyne Byrd
Principal Bakersfield MS/HS

With school just around the corner, I wanted to remind everyone that several students will have immunizations due.
If you have a kindergartner, 8th grader or senior, chances are they need some immunizations to attend school.
Our board policy and the state of Missouri require them to have certain vaccinations in order to attend school. This is extra important with all of the increased outbreaks of whooping cough and measles being reported.
Your child will not be able to attend school without a current immunization record on file, so please make sure to send that in if you have not submitted one since their last vaccine.
I’m excited to see everyone and look forward to another healthy happy school year! 😊
