Well, our Scholar Bowl season ended today, but I'm very proud of our team. Nathan Talley won third place in individual scorer. Good job! 4th grade has been studying about what happens to our trash after we throw it away. They learned some of it finds its way to the ocean, where it can have a serious effect on the wildlife. Ask a 4th grader what they have learned. Below are 4th grade students using what they have learned about biomedical engineering to design prosthetics for injured marine wildlife.

Parents, take a date night! Rock-a-Thon is this Friday after school until midnight! Kids need a rocker and $20. If your student is in Honor Society, they have been asked to raise more than the $20 minimum. Money raised goes towards scholarships. Rockers must be taken home Friday night. If your student is playing in the peewee basketball game Friday night, you can drop them off after the games and they will get their 8 service hours! Food and drinks will be provided!
Track practice tomorrow starts tomorrow at Pride Park. The general practice will go from 4:00 to 4:45 and then an emphasis on the relay teams from 4:45 until 5:15. A practice schedule as well as a meet schedule will be handed out at the practice. If a student needs to ride with an upperclassmen to the park then I will need a note giving them permission. Otherwise, the athletes can ride the bus to the park. See ya then!

Students in 7B made a life-size model of a box-and-whisker plot to practice displaying data, such as their height in inches and age in months! The students on the floor represent the repeated numbers in the set. Students holding the rulers from left to right represent the minimum value, lower quartile (25%), median, upper quartile (75%), and maximum value, respectively. There is a string connecting all the points (students), it's just hard to see!

Fifth Grade earned $200 in Donorschoose.org gift cards, for completing Google's "Internet Awesome" program. This curriculum teaches about online identity, mindfulness on what to share, internet etiquette, cyberbullying, and password security. This activity included a 20 ft. by 20 ft. map of Missouri where the teachers placed different locations and attractions on cards in their spot on the actual map. Great activity for us teachers and it was awesome to hear all the ideas of how it could be used in different subject areas!! What a great way to make connections in our state and have students work with spatial awareness!

Congratulations to Bakersfield varsity Scholar Bowl team for winning second place, and the JV team for winning third. Also, way to go Nathan Talley and Alex Kowiti for their sixth place individual wins for varsity and JV respectively. So proud of our kids!x
The Scholar Bowl Fall Tournament is today, November 10th, from 9-2. However, all participants need to be at the school at 8:30.

These are your medalist for the White River Conference meet held at Dora. Nathan Talley 13th place and Brady Ingalsbe 5th place. He also got all-conference. Girls: Andrea Yount was 15th, Hannah Bean was 14th, Ashton Yeager was 9th, Makenzie Lester was 4th, Alivia Bean was 3rd, and Nautica Smith was 2nd. Makenzie, Alivia, and Nautica were all-conference. The girls team got 1st!!
AR points are due October 12th!
Remember that students are still competing for the Pizza Championship! The class that has the highest amount of points by the end of this quarter gets a free day with pizza! We still have one week left. Make it count!!

1st grade students read the 3 Little Pigs last week and did several hands on activities. We will have a fun culminating activity tomorrow to wrap up the unit!
Third grade is working hard on three digit addition and subtraction, a research report on nocturnal animals, learning about plants/their functions, and the history of our U.S. Symbols.
